Walker - I walked in on the jobs of three men....Kim Covington says,"Hi Charlie?"... Who spend their day gripping nuts and bolts.
So I couldn't find better testers for the Gator Grip.
But Bill and the rest of the mechanics at Mr. Bill's were tempted to try it anyway. Bill Deglopper says,"I was kind of interested myself. I was tempted to go out and buy one of these."
The Gator Grip is supposed to replace all of Bill's sockets.
The pins on the Gator Grip allow the universal socket to grip any nut or bolt. Bill says ,"It's coming off. Yep, It definitely works."
I gave Gator Grip a try on a rusty, caroded nut on a battery.
I wasn't strong enough to turn the handle.
But Bill was able to turn it but it didn't work on another bolt.
"It won't work on anything where there's actually a bolt sticking out." But it grabbed onto everything else. "And that was on there tight too."
And it gripped a valve on a radiator a plumber was working on and a nut on a toilet another plumber in Rockford fixed.
But both plumbers had a difficult time finding other applications for the Gator Grip. And Mr. Bill agreed that searching for nuts and bolts around your house may be a chore.
I bought the Gator Grip at the "As Seen on TV" store at the Lakes Mall.
It costs $24.99. That's $5 more than the informericial. The owner says that's because the demand is so great. And the demand is also high at our phone bank.

Gator-Grip is a grabber
Call it the zoom lens of tools.
The Gator-Grip universal socket does the work of two complete sets of sockets. It grabs the nuts and bolts in both metric and SAE dimensions as well as odd shapes like wing nuts, square nuts and even broken nuts.
Push Gator-Grip onto a fastener and the hardened allow steel pins conform to the fastener's edges; remove Gator-Grip and the pins reset automatically.
How does it work? Gator-Grip uses 54-pin, high-resolution, hex-shaped design to fit nuts and bolts from one-quarter to three-quarters inch and from 7mm to 19mm.
The round pins are durable and grip around nuts and bolts without using sharp, gouging corners. Individual springs control every pin and a precision mechanism resets all of the pins to the same level.
Gator-Grip has been tested at more than 100 foot pounds of torque.
It sells for $19.95 by mail order at information call 1-800-463-4000 and also are available at various isle hardware stores.
