St. Paul Regional Water Services purchased both the Sumo and the King gator as an experiment after reading about the success Watertown Connecticut had with their Sumo.
We have used the King Gator on 30 broken tees with a success rate of 95%, the problem we've encountered is not enough of the tee left for the Gator to grab, SPRWS estimates the cost savings of not having to dig those tees at around $55,000.
We have had similar results using the Sumo Gator, one of the water main crews encountered an eight gate shut off for a main break and three out of the eight revolving nuts were rounded, in order to control the water we would have had to back up the shut off using an additional 10 gates causing the loss of water to one of the busiest streets in St. Paul.
St. Paul regional water has found both the King Gator and the Sumo Gator to be a valuable tool in the service of our customers and we would highly recommend these tools for other utilities.
